Heart BEATS????

Wait a minute, did you say heart BEATS?

....Were the exact thoughts going through Matt and my head's as we sat in the ultrasound room at our 6 week checkup. Let me back up and give a little background prior to this moment. Matt and I found out we were pregnant with what we thought was baby #3 the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 26th, 2016. We were a bit shocked, excited and in the end definitely feeling like we were ready to handle one last baby into our family. Fast forward two weeks to Wednesday, December 14th. I woke up around 3:30 am with what I thought was a possible miscarriage. I was very upset but also knew that God always has a plan (and boy did he...but we will get to that). Matt, my mom and the nurse I was messaging at our doctor's office all reassured me that everything could still be just fine. I, however, did not have the same positive thoughts. I had previously had two other miscarriages and this reminded me exactly of those. I called in a sub for my kindergarten classroom and tried to keep myself busy to keep my mind off of what was happening until my 3:00 already scheduled ultrasound. Walking in to the appointment I was beyond nervous, yet somewhat hopeful that everything would in fact be okay with our little one. The ultrasound tech asked how I was feeling and I told her what had been happening since early in the morning and that I was fully prepared to either not see a heartbeat or nothing in there at all. Once the exam began, the tech made a sound where I thought maybe she was choking or at the least swallowed "down the wrong pipe". I looked right at her to make sure she was okay and the words that were about to come out of her mouth forever changed our lives...

"Well, there are heart beats."

My first initial thought was "oh whew this one baby has multiple heart beats and his/her heart is beating away...causing multiple beats to be picked up." Mind you that initial thought lasted a millisecond as I looked up at the screen and have no idea what I am looking at but definitely see two things that could either mean two very small kidneys to the untrained ultrasound eye or two babies. All within what seemed like forever but at the same time a moment as quick as lightening, the following conversation plays out.

 "Did you say beats?" -Me
"Yes, beats. Here is baby A and there is baby B. You're having TWINS!"-Tech
"Wait, what? Huh?" -Me
"Ohhhhh my." -Matt
(this may or may not have been his exact words)
*Laughter, lots of uneasy, in shock laughing. -Matt, me and the tech
*Huge sigh of shock -Me
"Twins? I don't want to get a van!" -Me
*Laughter and almost dropped the wand. -Tech

And then the rest of the appointment went on to check to make sure both babies were healthy and where they needed to be in regards to their growth and development while two very shocked parents sat there in complete stunned amazement.

And thus begins THE BROWN PACK.

Long Time....No Post?

Well hello there! In true "Busy Brown's" fashion, we have not posted since our first child was born 5 years ago! Hattie was born on July 7th and is now 5 years old. Since then we have had three, yes you read that right THREE more children. Rhett was born on October 24th, 2014 and now is 2 1/2 years old and we recently completed our family with boy/girl twins Ryne and Harlow who were born just two weeks ago on Sunday, July 16th. So needless to say, we have stayed true to our blog name and have been quite busy and will only continue to be even busier!

My hope with rejuvenating this blog is to chronicle the lives we have created and how we navigate through this first full year being parents to four children under the age of five. I have no doubt in my mind there will be ups and downs and "in betweens" as we figure out life with newborn twins, a toddler and a five year old who is going on fifteen.

Until the next post....I will leave you with a few updated photos of  #TheBrownPack and will be excited to share how the first couple of weeks have played out, along with the story of finding out we were pregnant with twins up until their arrival.
